Location
The photo shows the Dormition of the Theotokos Cathedral, which is in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. It is the most famous Roman Orthodox church in Cluj- Napoca and sits opposite the Ntaional Theatre. In front of the Cathedral is a Statue of Avram Iancu surrounded by fountains.Time
This photo was taken in the early evening after the fountains had stopped running, and when the pond was still. It was taken on 25th October 2013 at 20:29.Lighting
n/aEquipment
The photo was taken using a Cannon EOS 550D with a standard 18-55 mm lens and UVA filter. Even though it was evening, I did not use a flash as that would reduce the impact of the reflection and result in glare from the pond. Settings were: F/5.6 ISO:3200 Exp: 12 secs.Inspiration
I love landscape photography and reflections - there is something magical about them. I go to Cluj every year and the day before, I had been out without my camera and saw this shot; so came back the next night and shot some frames.Editing
There was very little post-processing done to this. All I did was to make change the contrast and brightness to enhance the colours. In my camera bag
It all depends on what type of photography I am doing and whether I am at home or on holiday. At home, I have my trusty Cannon EOD550D attached to the 18-55mm lens. I also take with me my bigger lens 55-250mm and also my Tamron Macro 90mm 1:1 lens. I also have a GorillaPod Focus my tripod as it small and versatile. Attached to the lens are a UVA filter, CPL filter and a ND filter. However, when I go on holiday I usually leave the Macro and bigger at home.Feedback
For this type of reflection photo, you want a still, clear night. This will make the water still to create the reflection. Normallt I would use a tripod, but if you dont have one to hand look for a bench or wall to rest the camera on. Take many photos and various exposure speeds and have fun. One thing to lok out for is other people walking past so just be patient - the end result will be worth it.
