Dear Daisy: In 2008, a giant typhoon struck Myanmar. It was deadly killing about 125,000 people. Besides killing people it knocked down hundreds of thousands of large, old trees. I made my first visit to Myanmar two years later and one of the sights that greeted me was the abundance of large wood carvings like this one with the monkey. Since then, Myanmar went to a sort of democracy to get economic sanctions lifted against the military government, now the Burmese Army is back in the news with genocide on Muslim people. It is a beautiful country, but corrupt and with an evil army influence. Thanks for noticing this little guy!

Dear Ed: Thanks for your note. Because of the cyclone that had passed through Myanmar two years earlier there were tons and tons of large, high quality woodcarvings. I felt fortunate to see the result of so much artistic talent. :)

Dear Brian: Thanks for good words. This picture brings back happy memories at first discovering Myanmar. I was so impressed during my first visit, that I moved and spent two years there as an English teacher. At the time, there was hundreds and hundreds of large wood carvings, all very well done! :)
