The photos were taken in the Nazi extermination camp at AuschwitzTime
It was exactly 11.45am of 8 March 2015 when I realized these two photos that (really) impressed me a lot.Lighting
I used natural light (and there was very little light present) without the use of flash. I raised the ISO fearing not to be able to have the right exposure. In practice I gave preference to the photo at the expense of quality. It is a practice that I often adopt when I take street or report photos. Very often, in fact, you do not have time to adjust the SLR properly.Equipment
For this photo I used my Nikon D4S (now replaced with the D5) and the photo (as a whole) consists of two shots in the following. I wanted to create a story of what I experienced. The shooting data are as follows: Target 14-24 (focal 14mm) ISO 1600; f / 2.8; 1/50. I did not use flash and I did not use tripodInspiration
I was struck by finding a baby so small in a place so sad and I followed it with my Nikon convinced that I would be able to photograph something interesting. I was in a pavilion of the concentration camp of Auschwitz and this child, watched in shock the shoes taken from the slaughtered children in the extermination camp. The parents (Russians) explained everything that was on display. In the first shot seems to look appalled what was the story of the parents. In the second he turns to me almost to ask me .... "WHY 'ALL THIS?" I shuddered! And I think I managed to convey my mood. Every time I see these photos, I get upset!Editing
After developing the two raw files made, I addrizzato some 'lines with Ps (I used the focal length 14mm and I was very close) and then I created a single file with the two photos in sequenceIn my camera bag
Normally in my backpack there are two camera bodies (D850 and D5) with the Nikon triad composed from 14-24; 24-70 and 70-200. If necessary, add the 85 f1.4 Nikon and the focaletor of focal eNikon x2Feedback
There are no special secrets to make these photos. I was struck by the absurdity of the child's parents who (besides taking him to such a sad place too early) also explained to him in detail what had happened. I followed him convinced that it would be an inspiration for a photo. And so it was. Sadly ...... I was right. :-(
