In 2014 I attended a 50th anniversary celebration of the Ford Mustang. The event was help at the Motor Speedway outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. After finishing the Mustang celebrations I went into Las Vegas to see what adventures I could find. I discovered there was a Rock-a-Billy gathering at the Orleans Casino. I must admit, I found this event much more fun than the Mustangs at the Raceway. I plan to attend another Rock-a-Billy event with more time so I can enjoy all there is to see and do. I love old cars but I am not that guy who can identify them all. So if you know what this truck is please share your knowledge with us.

Location
This photo was shot at the Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada during the 2014 Viva Las Vegas Rock-a-Billy Weekend.Time
This photo was shot early afternoon on a Friday so the number of attendees was lower than later in the day or on the weekend. I count my self fortunate to have arrived at this time because it was much easier to get photos of the vehicles.Lighting
The lighting on this day was a little difficult. During the day it was high overcast skies that were gray and unexciting. As you can see, it made for light shadows but less than stellar backgrounds.Equipment
All the vehicle photos I shot this day were captured with a Nikon D300s with a Tamron 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 Wide Angle lens. I didn't use a flash or a tripod. I bought the Tamron lens specifically to shoot this event and the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang which was also held the same weekend in Las Vegas. I knew I would need the capabilities of a wide angle lens to capture the vehicles in the tight settings where they would be displayed.Inspiration
The inspiration for this photo was my love of old classic vehicles and to document the Rock-a-Billy event. I grew up with people restoring old cars and racing them. Restorations and Rat-rods both hold a special place in my heart. I love the patina that was preserved on this truck. Can you imagine the stories this old girl could tell if she could speakEditing
The only post processing for this photo is to crop out some of the surrounding stuff that distracted from the main subject. In my camera bag
My kit has been upgraded since this event. I now shoot a Nikon D810 and Nikon D500. For lenses I have a Nikkor 105 mm f2.8 (my workhorse lens), Nikkor 16-80mm f2.8-4, Tamron 10-24mm f3.5-4.5, and a Tamron 150-600mm f5-6.3. I use the Nikon speedlight system for supplemental lighting and I Manfrotto tripod when needed.Feedback
If a person wanted to shoot such images I would say you will need a wide angle lens no matter what else you carry. The vehicles at this event are parked quite close to each other so this also makes the wide angle lens a must, otherwise you won'y be able to get the complete car in the frame. I also recommend patience, there are a lot of people who share their love for these automobiles and the Rock-a-Billy culture. Let the visitors enjoy the sights. And who knows, some of the costumed participants will be willing to pose in your shots.
