Location
The photo was taken on top of the Calmont near Bremm in South West Germany. The Calmont is the steepest vineyard in Germany, about 380m high. From there you have a wonderful view over one of the beautiful Moselle loops. There are two ways to reach the top of the Calmont. Either a long hike from Bremm or for lazy people like me, by car from the backside of the hill.Time
I went there early in the morning on October 25, 2014 at about 9AM to take some photos of the Moselle loop, but it was so misty that you hardly could see the river. So I decided to walk through the nearby forest to take some misty forest pictures. Suddenly I heard a car coming towards me. I was looking for a place with an interesting background and then the car came. I had just 1 shot.Lighting
There was of course the lights of the car, the rest was relatively dark and due to the lights of the car the rest was underexposed.Equipment
I used a Nikon Df and a Nikon 24.0-70,0mm f/2.8 lens. No other equipment was involved.Inspiration
As I wrote before, it wasn‘t my intention to take this shot. I was there to shoot the Moselle loop from high above. But it was so misty, that I couldn’t see the river. I decided to take some misty forest pictures. But when I heard the car coming it was clear I have to take the picture of this car in the misty forest.Editing
Yes, I did the editing mainly in Lightroom and a bit in PhotoShop. Due to the fact that the forest was a bit underexposed I increased the exposure and the temperature with a brush. I then worked on the total frame, increased the Contrast a bit, decreased the Highlights, increased the Shadows, increased the Whites, decreased the Blacks, increased a bit the Clarity, Vibrance and Saturation. Then in the Detail tab I increased Sharpening, put radius to 0,8, Details to 40 and used Masking. I checked then Chromatic aberration and Profile correction. Added a little bit of Vignetting. Unfortunately I do not remember the editing steps in Photoshop. In my camera bag
It depends on my plans. When I just go out for a walk I usually take my Nikon Z6II (I sold my Nikon Df in the meantime) and my Nikon 24-200 f/4-6.3. When I go for a longer trip I take my Nikon Z6II, my Nikon 14-30 f/4, my Nikon 24-70 f/4 and my 24-200 f/4-6.3. Further I take my ND filters and my tripod.Feedback
I recommend to use an app where you can find mist in the area where you want to take pictures. Search an interesting place where you know that there will come cars frequently. Look for an interesting background und then you have to be patient and wait for the right moment.
