Location
This photo has been taken in Tuscany in Italy in a region called Crete Senesi. It is a hilly region south of Siena. Very characteristic for the little villages on top of a hill and the waved landscape.Time
It was captured around 6 pm on a nice and sunny day.Lighting
I wanted to emphasize the shadows between the land waves and wanted the little village in the evening sun. Therefore we waited until the sun was already low in the late afternoon.Equipment
I used a Nikon D90 and a Tamron 18-270 mm lens. No other equipment.Inspiration
We were the whole day walking through Siena and although we already were a little bit tired we decided to drive further south to this region Crete. We stopped in a little village and had a cop of coffee in a little cafe sitting outside and enjoyed the nice atmosphere. Around 5.30 pm we started to look for these characteristic places. Among many others I captured this image.Editing
I did post-processing in Lightroom following my standard basic workflow. I further used the ND-filter tool for the foreground and I did some sharpening. In my camera bag
I have since short a Nikon Df which I now normally use. The lenses I take depends on what I want to shoot. Sometimes I only take my 2 prime lenses a Sigma 24mm and a Sigma 35mm and sometimes I take my zoom lenses a Nikon 14-24 mm and a Nikon 24-70 mm. Furthermore I have a set of 3 different ND-filters and a Pol-filter and most of the time I carry a tripod with me, at least I have it in the car, just in case.Feedback
Where ever you are try first to "arrive" in the place. Take a look around and try to be part of the place. Don't start shooting immediately. Just wait and look what is happening. The good moments will come. Be either an early bird or an owl, meaning be there early in the morning or late in the afternoon. There you will find the best light to shoot.
