I had recently returned to Canada from a year in the Dominican Republic when I took this photo. It was taken in my backyard (at the time) with an iPhone 6s. I have a short video of this spider wrapping up it’s dinner which I took shortly after I snapped this photo.Time
This was around 10:00PM. This was definitely her favourite spot although she did make her way to a few different spots over the course of the summer.Lighting
I was very impressed with the capability of the iPhone 6s camera! Taken at night, with no flash, only the ambient backyard patio lighting.Equipment
This photo was taken freehand with an iPhone 6sInspiration
I’ve always been fascinated by spiders. I think it started with Charlotte’s Web when I was…(a little)younger. There’s this stigma around spiders that I understand but I don’t necessarily agree with. They eat bugs! ‘Nuf said!Editing
I took this photo before I dove head first back into photography so I didn’t do much editing or tweaking. It was also over 5 years ago! (If I had to guess, I may have tweaked the sharpness a little with the in-Viewbug editor. In my camera bag
I normally shoot with a Canon 6d with the EF 50mm Prime f1.4 USM or the EF 24-105mm f4. My back-up camera is a Canon T5i which I keep an EF 40mm f2.8 or the EF-S 55-250 f4-5.6 which I currently(not for long)use as my long telephoto option.Feedback
Keep your camera batteries charged and keep your camera close. If I would have shot this little beauty with my DSLR, I think I would have had it enlarged and hanging on my wall by now! Having said that, if you don’t have access to a larger sensor, don’t let that stop you from taking a photo! “We do what you can, with what we have!”
