Location
In my garden, when I still lived in France. We had a few virgina creepers in a yew treeTime
Must have been in the morning, because there was only good light till 10AM. It was a nice autumn day.Lighting
I just waited for it to be good on some lower vines. The main challenge was to line it up fast enough, as they moved slightly all the timeEquipment
A Micro Nikkor PC 85. If you have a tricky situation to line up the focus plane, it is the best choice. It is a tricky lens to use and everybdoy says you need a tripod. That is cobblers, because subjects move, too. Hence it is best to observe well through the viewfinder till it is perfect. Don't dream of taking fast shots with that one though.Inspiration
I wanted some nice autumn colours and took various leaves on that Sunday morning. In the Dordogne, you have oak, beech and various nuts to choose from, but vines are often the best.Editing
the usual, tad more contrast, a slight crop.. and half an hour pulling out bramble thorns from my shirt and skin with tweezers. In my camera bag
Manual wide angle, A bokeh lens (vintage 55mm or 135mm or this 85mm, apart from the 135 all manual) A d4 or D800, an allround 24-70 and some Tele or macro, depending on the situation.Feedback
Just walk around your garden or your favourite walk with open eyes, take a note of good leaves, in doubt take a pic to remember the interesting ones are to come back when the light is better. Careful observation and a good shot in the camera is always better than hours of fiddling with filters.
