This was taken on the highway heading towards Monument Valley. This is the area that was used for filming the movie Forest Gump.Time
The time of day was late afternoon prior to sunset.Lighting
The lighting was from storms moving in. The time of year was in May, well before the Monsoon season.Equipment
I used my Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The phone's camera is great, but I did like my Note 3 camera much better.Inspiration
My friend and I were out on an adventure. We stayed in a Navajo Hogan while in Monument Valley. We travelled all around the area. My friend had never been to that particular area. She was shooting everything. She also got some awesome pictures of me on a horse within the Valley.Editing
I am very green when it comes to post processing, I am still learning. It depends on the results of the picture whether I use post processing. I do like my colors saturated. I am use to using Fuji Film when I lived in Hawaii. The colors found in Hawaii along with Fuji film and Fuji processing are incredible.In my camera bag
I have many cameras; Canon SL1, T1I, 5DMIII, and a Sony A7RII. Many Canon lenses. I use the Canon lenses on the Sony by way of a Metabones adaptor. Various Lensbabies. I just received a new carbon fiber tripod, Feisol. Can't wait to use it.Feedback
Due to the vastness of the landscapes of the Southwest, the most dramatic scenes happens when weather is moving through the area. Monsoon season is fantastic in the Southwest. With all the unique rock formations, capturing lightening in the scene is the ultimate reward. The light is so incredible out here. Even high noon during a weather event can produce fantastic shots. I am a tour guide at Grand Canyon National Park. So I am very fortunate to be out on the rim all year round during all types of weather conditions. I may not have my camera equipment on me but my phone is with me at all times. We recently had a snow storm come through and the snow made it all the way down into the inner gorge. Picture confection sugar sprinkled on the dark metamorphic rock of the inner gorge. I have been here for 10 years and had never seen the snow make it that far down in depth of the canyon. Great pictures can be taken with any type of camera, only the ability to blow it up is affected by the tool used.
