Behind The Lens
Location
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (and the Presidential Mansion) in Athens, Greece is located in Syntagma Square, in front of the Old Royal Palace: On constant duty is the Evokes of the Presidential Guard which is a ceremonial infantry unit that is distinguished as the last unit of Evzones in the Hellenic Army, that is closely associated with the traditional Evzone's uniform, which evolved from the clothes worn by the klephts in the Greek War of Independence. The most visible item of this uniform is the fustanella, a kilt-like garment.Time
It was late afternoon: I already watched the previous two or three performances of the changing of the guards because I took the extra time to learn about the Evzone's behavior and was able to predict their actions - that allowed me to be in position, with lens aimed in the right direction and camera settings ready, to get this shot.Lighting
It was a hot afternoon. And, I was content even though the sun was shining harshly overhead because I was hoping to photograph with aperture at about f11.Equipment
On my Nikon D600 is only a Nikon 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-D which is an inexpensive auto-focus mid-range zoom lens for FX that defined as the "kit lens" by " Haruo Sato (its lens designer) of "In NIKKOR - The Thousand and One Nights No.63" who stated that at the 80mm position, the best image quality is achieved at f/11.Inspiration
The tomb is a cenotaph dedicated to the Greek soldiers killed during war; and was sculpted between 1930 and 1932 by sculptor Fokion Rok.Editing
I uploaded the raw file using DXO Optic Pro 10 using automatic lens profile and default settings for landscape.In my camera bag
I carried an extra lens (the mid-range telephoto zoom) because I anticipated needing it on travel/ vacation. Else, I normally carry only a Nikon AF-D 55mm F2.8 micro, and a Sigma AF APO 300mm F4 APO Tele Macro.Feedback
