I took this in my neighbors backyard. It was a particularly hot and humid summer and there was a period of time when mushrooms were popping up all over the place. I didn’t have any cool ones in my own yard so I asked my neighbor if I could take some in her yard.Time
This was taken some time in the middle of the afternoon. Definitely not my favorite time of day to shoot, but in this particular instance it turned out fine.Lighting
As I said, mid afternoon is definitely not my favorite time to take photos, but it was after high noon so it wasn’t too bad.Equipment
I used my Canon 7D along with my 100 mm lens.Inspiration
I absolutely love macro photography, and when I saw all the magical looking mushrooms I knew that I had to create something special with them. So I got on my belly in my neighbors yard and started shooting away. I know she probably thought I was crazy, but was amazed when I showed her the finished product!Editing
I cropped this photo a little bit. Then I added the snail on top of the mushroom, and added a Boca overlay to the background. I cropped this photo a little bit. Then I added the smell on top of the mushroom, and added a Boca overlay to the background. This was quite a long process as I don’t have a lot of experience with composites. In my camera bag
Normally I always have my canon 5D Mark III, 100mm and 24-105 lenses, remote shutter and spare batteries and CF cards.Feedback
My best advice is to just look around you wherever you are. I wasn’t going to shoot any photos that day until I looked down and saw all the mushrooms. Just be prepared to drop on your belly at any given moment to capture some really great shots!
