Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken in Beaulieu Sur Mer (French Riviera).
Time
For a long time I wanted to take pictures of the Beaulieu Sur Mer seaside with the good weather conditions. On this day everything was fine. The storm was particularly aesthetic after one hour. This was taken May 3, 2014 at 8:21 PM.
Lighting
I wanted to show the forces of the storm and the sea. When I finally captured a lightning I knew that a dramatic scene would be the right choice. I decided to use a surreal scene to show the beauty and aesthetics of the storm.
Equipment
Canon 5DMKII, with 17-40mm f/4 lens and tripod.
Inspiration
Aesthetics of storm is the main source of inspiration. It's another way to show the beauty of Earth with specific light condition. The place is the second source of inspiration, Beaulieu Sur Mer is one of my favorite french riviera cities, the seaside is very different with rocks and boulders.
Editing
I used a HDR processing for this scene. 3 raw files was merging, the file overexposed for movement in the sea, the file with a high shutter speed for captur and freeze the lightning and clouds, the file with underexposure for the dramatic side of the scene.
In my camera bag
I always have with me a wide angle Canon 16-35mm f2.8L, one of my telephoto lenses 70-200mm or 100-400mm f4.5/5.6L IS. Several polarizing and gray-gradient filters and a tripod.
Feedback
In landscape photography, it is important to prepare a minimum of his subject, remote location (map, website, stories ...) and if possible an approach visit directly on the ground will be very appreciable to detect the advantages and the constraints of the site, this will avoid certain disappointments.
