Wow, what a scene !
The aqua hue of the glacial ice ice fantastic; but it is the apparent insignificance of the people, compared to the dominance of the jagged peak jutting up through the clouds, that makes such a powerful statement.
Excellent work !

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during the first part of a trek in Los Glaciares national park Patagonia.

Time

April 8, 2016 at 6:01 PM. It was during the second day of trek that I passed in front of these mountains. I had already walked a lot and I remember having lived the 4 seasons in one day. This landscape of end of day will remain engraved forever in my memory.

Lighting

The contrast between the rock, the ice and this impressive mix of seasons in the sky, showed me naturally the direction of the surreal. So I followed a path a little more dramatic with this ambient clarity.

Equipment

Canon 5DMKII, with 70-200mm f/4 lens. Polarizing filter. Shot without tripod.

Inspiration

During my 14 days trek I knew that I was going to see a lot of things but not to live and see the 4 seasons in a few hours. I didn't know either that the hikers on this glacier will be the last human being that I was going to see before 7 days in total isolation. This surprising mix is my source of inspiration in this picture.

Editing

When the photo has to magnify in what it really is, I push the retouch quite far but in this case the clarity was quite obvious. The post-processing work concerns the levels, the white balance, the tone curves and fusion masks, it took 15 minutes.

In my camera bag

I always have with me a wide angle Canon 16-35mm f2.8L, one of my telephoto lenses 70-200mm f/4 or 100-400mm f4.5/5.6L IS, 50mm f/1.4. Several polarizing and gray-gradient filters and a tripod (I rarely use it). I still have my mountain gear, jacket gore tex, microfleece, gloves, hat, down jacket ....

Feedback

In mountain photography it is not always possible to spot places directly before the trip. During the walks a subject can be revealed in a very short time (sometimes a few seconds) according to the movement of the clouds and the type of clarity, it is imperative to have his camera at hand. Observation and patience are the keywords in mountain photography.
