Location
This was taken in my large side garden.Time
This was in the afternoon when the bees are most active in my garden.Lighting
The best lighting is on overcast days, early morning or early evening when the sun is lower so it casts a nice glow of color and isn't overpowering the world with light.Equipment
Canon 70D with my Canon 60mm Prime Macro Lens.Inspiration
I love the little green bees that visit my garden collecting pollen. These guys are tiny and unique so I usually try to capture them when they are in my garden. They are fast fliers and don't stay on the flowers too long so it is tricky getting a proper shot of them.Editing
I always use Adobe Lightroom to adjust color and light on my photos so they are more accurate. In my camera bag
I always make sure to have my 3 lens (all Canon) there is the standard 18-55 mm (used most), the 75-300 mm and the 60 mm prime.Feedback
When it comes to capturing bees and butterflies or any other insect for that matter you can use a tripod if you prefer (it is easier to get clearer shots), but my advice is to just do your best to stick it out, be patient and the more shots you take the more likely you'll find that right shot. Sometimes just waiting for the shot to line up and then snap your photo means you are more likely to miss the shot. Not to say you should be sloppy, but sometimes a little free form can help get that shot you want.
