We were in bush in Africa for a few days, and this photo was taken as we rushed to get out of the looming rain storm.Time
Late afternoon early evening, we were finished for the day and saw this lovely photo opportunity. We were in a hurry so hand held.Lighting
It was the light that caught our attention, with the colour from the setting sun in the background and the dark dramatic clouds making their way across the sky.Equipment
We were in a hurry, so basically used whatever was closest to hand, I used a 11-24mm F4L so that I could fit lots of the sky into the frame.Inspiration
It was definitely the sky that made the photo and then using the termite hill as a subject in the foreground. Also the shape of the cloud framing the termite hill and the tree added to the photo.Editing
I only do Lightroom, so I enhanced the colour to make the cloud more dramatic, and whitened the termite hill to make stand out more.In my camera bag
Just started using a Canon mirrorless R5, so that has taken over from my 5D mark iv. Usually carry 100mm macro, 25-74 lens and a 100 - 400, a 1.4 extender. Various filters and a lee system. Extra batteries and lots of cards as I normally photograph wild life, birds etc.Feedback
Wait for the best moment with the light. Don't be afraid to go out when the weather is bad, particularly when there is sun and clouds, makes for a dramatic sky. Also, I feel that the canon equipment can cope with quite a bit of rain and is not as sensitive as people think .
