Sugar Mill Gardens is a lovely park on 12 acres of land in Port Orange, Florida. On its grounds can be found the remnants of an old sugar mill in ruins, and large, dinosaur sculptures from the 1940's and 50's, when it was a theme park called Bongoland, after Bongo, the baboon that lived in a cage on the premises. This was once part of the Dunlawton Plantation. during the Civil War, it is said that confederate soldiers camped under one of the huge Southern Live Oaks, now known as the Confederate Oak. In recent years, gardeners volunteer their services to keep the grounds looking gorgeous, and it is a mixture of manicured garden areas, and a nature trail that brings to mind an ancient feeling. The near life sized dinosaur sculptures loom in areas that really have a prehistoric feel, like this lovely landscape area.
