I just wanted to leave a quick note to say thank you for participating in my "Portraits on Location" challenge. While I ultimately chose another photo as the winner, this one was one of my 100 favorites in a field that was just shy of 2000 entries.

Location
This Pictures was taken in an old industrial plant where cellulose was made. It is a huge area (even for non-swiss-standards) and half the buildings are forbidden to enter - so this tower. Now the plant is being dismantled and demolished to pieces and in 2025 new appartment houses will be build on the ground. Everytime I go there it looks differently.Time
It was taken on May 28th, around 16:00. The sun just disapeared behind the Tower. And it was hot... it was a very hot day... around 33 degrees. I was glad that the sun was behind the tower - so was Lana :-)Lighting
Afternnoon, hot temperatures, bright sun light... I waited 'til the sun was disappering behind the tower and I felt the conditions were perfect for my intention: bright daylight, tall tower, model on the shady side of the Tower and a flash for Lana in a white Dress. Dramatic, contrasty and everything pushed to the Limits :-)Equipment
Equipment...? hmmm, just "my usual stuff" for pictures like this. Canon EOS 5DsR, Canon EF 16-35/4 IS USM (16mm), Elinchrom ELB 400, Elinchrom 100cm Deep Octa, white dress & white camouflage net on the ground to make the dress look bigger.Inspiration
I like black&white photography and faded Colors in color pictures but sometimes I love to take this kind of pictures: bright colors, wide angle lens (often between 16mm and 24mm). seeing the tower and the sun I called for this shot.Editing
Unfortunately this time I had to do more adjustments than usual. 1. because of the location I couldn't place Lana close enough to the middle of the lens - distortion! I had to make her a bit thinner in post - sorry, Lana 2. the Dress and the camouflage net don't have the same white. I had to adjust that too 3. over all contrast and I applied a lot more contrast to the skyIn my camera bag
Camera, 16-35/4 IS, 24/1.4, 35/1.4, 50/1.4, 85/1.2 and 70-200/2.8 - my bag is big and heavy...Feedback
the usuable space between Tower and a wall was about 9m. I had to have the full height of the Tower on the Picture. Lana was about 6m away from the Tower and I was lying on the ground 3m away from Lana. I tried 24mm fixed lens - too long. 20mm - still too long. 16mm it was. When using a 16mm lens I make sure that the model is closer to the middle of the frame because of the distortion. Here I couldn't do that and Lana was too close on the side of the Picture - so, I had to correct that in post.
