Our second child was born with happy blue eyes, little laughing mouth, and a curious outlook.
One night shortly after he was born, an already arduous time of delivery and the near death of my wife, he contracted a fever. We rushed him to Children's Medical Center in Detroit.
For two weeks we watched and prayed as he was poked , IV'd, measured and medical staff came and went. Spinal Meningitis is fairly common in delivery rooms, where women are wheeled in, divested of children and rushed out for the hurried turn around. Germs persist.
He's a grown young man, happy, productive, bright.
