The story goes that this fellow had been working, panning in the streams when it flooded, looking for gold. As a typical man not so interested in a pretty house, he put up a rough sod and clay brick structure, more like a hut.

When he had enough to get a payout for the dust he'd gathered, he went to the nearest town. whatever that was...there aren't any near Marble Canyon. When he'd filled a pocket with cash, he went hunting a woman. God knows what kind of woman would be fed up enough with a town to follow a grubby miner back to the far side of the moon, but she did. After fifteen years, so the tale tells, she finally got fed up with the hut, him being gone all the time and only the occasional Indian riding by on horseback.

She walked away one day and disappeared in the desert. No one knows if she ever reached civilization or died of dehydration in the sands. He went looking and he died wandering the rocks of this hell in clay.
