Texans have their own way of describing things. At times it's laughable, while in other instances, the pithy phrase fits the action. “He’s all hat and no cattle," describes a person who doesn't follow through with what he brags about himself.
“I wouldn’t trust him any farther than I could spit!” connotes someone who is completely untrustworthy, while “Sho’nuff,” indicates agreement and finally "ready and rarin'!" means one is completely prepared for the task at hand!
So, in Texas, we'd describe the resurrection of Jesus to a stranger in the following colloquialism: "Howdy, y'all! Ain't niver seen anythin' like this heah! They say this Christ feller nearly busted the sky gettin' shuck of that thar grave, and rarin' to go in a brand spankin' new body! Ain't nary a skeeter hoverin' 'round that man! Bless yo heart, he done up and gawn! Nahmally, I'd tell ya, 'this ain't my first rodeo', but I nar' laid eyes on nuthin' like this heah! Don't tary too long or ya might get run't over by one o' them late angels! He sho got'r done!!!" Now listen heah, pilgrim! He done raised hisself by the powah o' the Almighty! Dern tootin' He did! Tellin' ya, this heah raisin' from tha dead is pure-dee like everythang's bigger in Texas! Only it wern't! It were in some fir off place call Je-RU-salem! I sweah! Sho has got me bamboozled what that Jesus pulled off! I'm fixin to believe the whole side o' hog chitlin's with that tellin', cause de Bible done said it's so! I'z happier'n a pig knee deep in slop! Happer'n all git-out over this reSOO-rectin, tellin' ya!"
The story of the resurrection has resonated with Christians of all nations and tribes, not only for its truth, but the absolute wonder of a stone being rolled away just feet from a dozen or more Roman soldiers, who would have been executed for sleepin' on the job, but that's exactly what this grizzled group of hardened men was paid off to claim. I wonder if any cowboy could have been bribed the way those frightened group of tired men were the 'maw-nin' aftah'! He ain't heah! Boy howdy, that's the truth on it! He ain't, HE IS RISEN!!!
Thank you Lord for what you did for all the men and wome and children of history, coming to earth to die for all of us!
