Thank you for entering my challenge and congratulations on winning. The color combination and the surreal quality of the photo were the clincher.

Excellent composition, makes me desire a banana while riding a boat. Good job.

Behind The Lens
Location
The sky was taken at random, with nothing particular in mind, just because it was a good sky and I thought I may be able to use it in future. The boat was edited from an image taken at Salerie Corner, Guernsey. This is the island where I grew up and there are some great photographic opportunities from dark skies to land and seascapes and some of the most beautiful coastal scenery in the world.Time
From memory I think both shots were taken mid-morning.Lighting
.Equipment
I use a Canon EOS 500D which proves that you do not need the most expensive kit to take competition winning photographs.Inspiration
I love playing around with images in Photoshop to create an alternative reality. Photography is an art form, and photo manipulation is not cheating, it is expressing your creativity. You can really let your imagination wander and I am greatly inspired by the many photographers on ViewBug who are so much better at this than I am! If you have a look at my profile you will see that many of my photos are manipulations, some using quite simple techniques and some more adventurous.Editing
This image was composed in from two photographs. The sky was mirrored in Photoshop and then the boat added in a separate layer. I chose to use this boat in the image as the yellow provides a great contrast to the blue sky. When copying the boat across I paid particular attention to the reflected ripples as they add realism to the final image. I find that attention to detail is very important in this kind of work.In my camera bag
When traveling I always have my Tamron 18-200mm zoom lens as it is a great all-rounder and means that I don't have to carry much kit. It is not very good in low light conditions though. My top tip is to have a large plastic bin bag with you just in case you need to kneel or lie down in wet grass.Feedback
Let your imagination be your guide. Almost anything is possible with modern photo manipulation software and you do not have to be an expert, some quite stunning effects are possible with very simple techniques. If you don't yet understand how layers work then find an online tutorial, this will be your most powerful tool to create some amazing images. I taught myself with a combination of trial and error and some online tutorials. Although it is good to try something new and adventurous my advice is to keep it simple and pay attention to detail. Zoom in close to any areas that you have worked on and tidy up, it will make a big difference to your final image.
