Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken at Ghost Ranch, New Mexico.

Time

This is one of my favourite images. This was the first time I'd ever been to Ghost Ranch. Being such an admirer of Georgia' O'Keefe's work, I wandered around the place for several hours in amazement. The hot, dry, sun, the sandy soil, the incredible views -- I saw why O'Keefe loved it so much. So interesting to explore the Prebyterian history behind the site. Can you imagine a Sunday service here? I'm not religious but the vista is incredibly awe-inspiring.

Lighting

The natural light here is ideal for photography. The wide-open spaces provide plenty of opportunity for amazing images.

Equipment

I used my iphone6s. Although I also have a CanonG12, I find the pixel resolution is better on iphones these days.

Inspiration

As I was looking around, it seemed that only a panorama shot would capture the depth and magnitude of what I was seeing. That's why an iphone was ideal for this kind of image.

Editing

No filters! The light and colour from the sky, clouds, rocks and soil is so vivid these images don't need any post-processing at all.

In my camera bag

I usually carry my iphone with me; although I will bring along my CanonG12 when I'm travelling.

Feedback

Look at the whole frame. Walk around from different angles before you shoot. Stand up, stand down -- look at the site from different perspectives.
