A while ago i went through my late father's old photo albums of his wartime experiences in Egypt and Palestine and rephotographed these little faded images. I fixed them up in Lightroom and added book style captions and then published the whole story in a blog post. It was not only a labour in family history but a voyage of discovery about my father as young man and of course into my own inherited personality characteristics :) Photography is a varied and interesting process, lending itself to a variety of uses.

I have no digital images of my father who died a long time ago, so choosing an image for the 'dads' contest was simple. This person in the pith helmet, a British army officer, could have been my father shortly before he was shot through the lungs manning a machine gun, fighting off the Turkish army ( or a small portion of it :) ) After hours lying in the broiling sand he was grabbed by a couter attacking cavalry troop, laid across a horse an galloped towards the rear only to have that horse shot and rolled over him. he survived, only just, and lived on for many years. This though, was an aspect of my father i never knew even though it shaped his worldview and interpersonal relationships. So, for what it is worth, Happy Father's day.
