I took this photo in Deering New Hampshire, just off Deering Center Rd. It's a small marsh area that won't even appear on the map, you just have to watch out for it, and it comes and goes REALLY quick!Time
This was taken early on a Saturday morning on October 12th 2013, I decided to drive down this beautiful scenic road till the end (about 15+ miles), just looking for interesting pictures to take. New Hampshire in the Fall has many amazing opportunities for great outdoor pictures.Lighting
That morning was very cold and overcast, with fog rolling off the hills...it might have even started to drizzle a bit, I remember the ground was very muddy. I love shooting on overcast days because of the even lighting.Equipment
This picture was shot using a Canon Mark ii, 24-105 Canon Lens, mounted on a Monfrotto tripod with a pistol grip head and a generic remote.Inspiration
The color and the fog rolling off the mountain is what really caught my attention. You really can't get this view though unless you park your car off the side of the road and walk out onto this little bridge that people fish off of. Normally, this might be an area you pass by without a second thought, but in the Fall it really stands out!Editing
Usually with a picture like this I'll adjust the contrast a bit (the fog had made the picture look a bit weak), then add 10 percent saturation to make the trees pop again...but with the Fall in NH, you have to watch out NOT to over saturate the color, because the natural color is sometimes so bright and amazing it almost looks fake.In my camera bag
My bag is always packed and ready to go with my Canon Mark ii, 24-105 Canon Lens (usually thats my standard lens thats on the camera), 17-40 Canon Lens for wide landscapes, remote for long exposures, extra batteries & CF cards, and of corse I NEVER leave home without my trusty Monfrotto tripod!Feedback
Best advice I could give to get a similar picture is to ALWAYS keep a tripod in your car, with a remote in you backpack. Without those two items you'll miss out on many amazing opportunities. Sure, you could probably get a good picture, but to get a great one, I believe you'll need tripod and a remote. One side note about the tripod, I've used many over the years, but I've found that NOTHING beats having the pistol grip head attached to your tripod for easy flexibility. Once you try it, nothing else will do!
