Behind The Lens

Location

At my studio

Time

it was taking during the mid day

Lighting

i used a two light system for this shoot. one in front and another behind to light a rim of light and create a separation between the subject and the pitch black backdrop.

Equipment

This was shot with Nikon D810, 50mm prime, no tripod, Paul Buff Einstein strobes light with a beauty dish to light the front and a slave flash with no modifier in order to get a crisp flash of light to light my subject from behind.

Inspiration

This was a collaboration between the Designer of the jewelry (@ishinensparkle) and I for a fashion magazine in Las Vegas Nevada MUA (@showoff_makeup). This became the front cover for the magazine and an 11 page spread of Vegas Runway Fashion Magazine. The composition it self, I pictured a powerful woman, a Goddess in Egyptians times, a person who was worship by million of its people as a Goddess her self. What would a person of this magnitude be like, how would she look, if we saw her, how would we perceive her like. So this became my interpretation of that Goddess... so open and proud of her body (hence the nudity of the photo) yet keep a composure that would just elevate her to that level of worshiper.

Editing

Yes, I shoot RAW and I use Light-room to set my color, light, exposure and basic adjustment. Already thinking where I will take this photo to in Photoshop. I try to use edits to the photo in order to create depth and ad a bit of 3D projection to a 2D element. Must come from my architecture background.

In my camera bag

My Nikon D810, two speedlights, a 24mm SIGMA Art and 85mm SIGMA Art lens. I don't shoot ever with a tripod, i like to explore and work the subject, weather its a stand still or a moving item. Study angles and move and push what i can get. Prime lenses force you to move. And if you are just sitting in a same position, you are loosing on so much potential amazing shoots that could come from the subject at hand.

Feedback

As far as the light, its a easy two light set up. One in front and one in the back. I feel the hardest part is to be able to connect with your model (not only make them feel relax during the shoot) but also for them to get and think of the character you are trying to project. I give them a bit of, think of...... as if your a Goddess. How would you look at me as a subject. Your all high and mighty and I am just a peasant. And of course, study the composition of the overall is key to keep a memorable subject and not make it boring to the viewer.
