Behind The Lens

Location
I love making photos of animals, especially big birds like this flamingo. I would love to go to Safari or similar places to do wildlife photography, but at the moment the closest possible thing for me to make photos like this is by going to animal shelters or zoos. This one was taken at the Antwerpen Zoo. One day I'll have enough funding to travel to wildlife places.
Time
I was a bit rushing when I took this photo because the zoo was almost closing. So that's around 5.40pm and the zoo was closing at 6pm.
Lighting
Luckily I still have good natural light around the place where the flamingo section was. So I just counted on the natural light and didn't use my flash.
Equipment
I used my old camera, Canon 60D, with a regular 18-135mm lens. Very basic stuff - since it's still the beginning period of my photography 'journey'.
Inspiration
Coming from Indonesia, where flamingo is not common at all, I found the bird very elegant and beautiful. The feather, the color and the S-shaped head and beak are amazing to witness. I was lucky to have spotted just the right pose for the things that I love about the bird at that moment when about to make the photo. It kind of summarizes all the features that I love about flamingo.
Editing
I did very little post-processing. A little crop to adjust the framing, a little contrast and saturation, and vignetting.
In my camera bag
Now (compared to the time when I took this photo) my bag have different equipment. I upgraded my camera to Sony A7RII, with 3 lenses that I always bring everywhere: 24-80 2.8, 50mm 1.8 and 70-200ii 2.8. Occasionally I bring a yongnuo flash and a tripod.
Feedback
Don't rush making photos of animals. Sometimes you just need to wait until they give you the perfect pose and it worth the wait.
