A late afternoon grey day beside the Englishman River: the rushing river: gravel bars and tall alders. I decided to capture the essential message by using a slow shutter and moving the camera vertically in line with the alders. Simple enough to achieve and i like the results. One way to think of abstraction is to see it as finding the essential image hidden in the detail, and besides it is creative fun. Moving one's camera on purpose like this rather than obsessing about tripods, sharp focus etc. is liberating. The image still retains a structure of lights and darks, and horizontal divisions. With an active mind behind the viewfinder rather than a set of rules to be followed anything is possible.
