Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Galena Summit in Idaho after a day of backcountry skiing.

Time

The photo was taken on Dec. 12, 2013, at 5:30 pm, as the sun was setting. It was a cold crisp day at Galena Summit, which is about 8700 feet in elevation..

Lighting

The sun was setting and I had a star burst effect through the trees in the background. The sun provided agolden glow on the fresh snow in the foreground.

Equipment

The camera was a Sony NEX 5T camera with a 16-50 mm kit lens. The lens was at 19 mm and the setting were iso 400, 1/30 sec., f/22.

Inspiration

I always take a camera along on my activities. Galena Summit is a beautiful observation location on a pass in Idaho's Boulder Mountains. I normally would have left the summit at an earlier time, but I continues to hang around for sunset on that day.

Editing

I used Lightroom to enhance the sharpness and saturation in a limited way.

In my camera bag

I now own a Sony Alpha 7 mirrorless camera with a full frame sensor. I have the 28-70 mm kit lens and a wide angle 18 mm equivalent Samyang lens.

Feedback

I usually carry a camera on most of my activities, just in case a photo opportunity arises. This includes hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, biking, and floating streams or rivers. I most always take landscape photographs.
