This is a photo of Nooksack Falls near Mt. Baker in Washington state. It was a short walk from Highway 542, the road to the Mt. Baker ski area.Time
This is one of my favorite images from the trip I made to Washington. I was staying at the coastal area of Birch Bay, just south of the Canadian border. I wanted to see the Mt. Baker area, which I had never been to, and so I took a long drive along highway 542 on Sunday, May 17, 2015. The photo was taken at 1:50 pm.Lighting
As I recall, it was a beautiful sunny spring day. Crisp and cool. I remember being appreciative of the fine weather in an area prone to much cloudiness and rainfall.Equipment
I used my Sony alpha 7 ILCE-7 full frame mirrorless camera with a 28-70 mm zoom lens and a circular polarizer. The camera was mounted on a tripod and the picture was taken at 32 mm for 2.5 sec, aperture priority, f/18, ISO 64, and a -0.3 exposure setting.Inspiration
I am always looking for images of great natural beauty. I enjoy hiking, biking, and skiing in mountainous areas and I usually take along a camera for potential scenes such as the one shown here.Editing
I sometimes use Lightroom to post-process images, especially for my RAW images. But no post-processing was involved for this image of Nooksack waterfall. I usually take RAW and JPG images, but I noted that I only took a JPG image of the Nooksack waterfall. In my camera bag
I use the Sony Alpha 7 camera because it is the smallest full frame camera that I know about. This is my landscape camera. I usually also carry a super zoom bridge camera in case I observe birds and wildlife. My "wildlife" camera is a Canon SX60, which can shoot RAW images. I do not use a telephoto lens on my Sony camera.Feedback
I always take a camera along on outdoor activities, particularly in new areas that I am experiencing. I also carry a light tripod, particularly when I am hiking along streams. I enjoy camping and backpacking, and try to take advantage of the dawn and dusk opportunities of colorful and vibrant picture taking. I try to obtain the best composition that is available at a scene. I use the rule of thirds and look for lines or patterns in the scene to make the photograph more interesting.
