Location
The photo was taken at the Columbus Zoo in Ohio. This pheasant is in a large enclosure that you can walk through. It was a perfect opportunity to work on my skills!Time
This was taken mid morning on a sweatshirt needed type day. I was very excited to have the opportunity to photograph so many birds of different varieties in one area.Lighting
This was taken with natural lighting at its finest. The somewhat cloudy skies offered enough light to pick up the natural sheen and the different textures of the pheasant's feathers.Equipment
This photo was captured on a Sony SLT A65V with a Sony 18-55mm lens. I rested my elbow on my leg to aid in steadying the shot.Inspiration
The varied and vibrant colors of birds amaze me, especially on the Golden Pheasant. And on this bird is the added bonus of various patterns.Editing
I stepped up the ambience a few notches and sharpened just a tad. The natural color on this bird's feather is already deeply saturated and well defined, so it needs little editing from the photographer. In my camera bag
Open my bag and you will find my Sony SLT A65V, an 18-55mm lens, a 70-300mm lens, a macro lens, an extra battery (charged!), the battery charger, and cleaning supplies for the lenses.Feedback
Birds in a zoo are fairly used to human activity, but they are still wild at heart, so take plenty of patience with you. You still want to capture that one amazing shot, so it may take awhile. Be prepared to kneel down and get on their level if the subject is on the ground. And call upon that patience again because there are likely to people walking in and out of your shooting zone.
