Location
I took this photo at the horse farm where my son works. This little guy was in the manure he was cleaning out. I was only there to because I was expanding my experience as I am a self taught photographer.Time
This was an early morning shot. I was actually out in the pasture looking for dew covered subjects when my son yelled at me.Lighting
I was concerned about the lighting because I knew I had to keep the mole in a bucket to be able to contain him. I took the bucket outside and set it up on a piece of equipment and then rotated it as needed. I did not want an abundance of light that would bother the subject.Equipment
This was shot with a Konica Minolta Dimage Z10. Aperture 17/5. Exposure 1/30 Focal Length 173/10. ISO 200. No flash ( would not have used regardless because of this animal's light sensitivity). A 5 gallon bucket that the mole was inside and a piece of towel that he was on so he didn't slide around.Inspiration
Just the plain uniqueness of the mole itself. Its front feet are so different from its back. It's not an animal that is seen often, let alone long enough for a photo shoot! He was fairly animated right from the start but yet not trying to run from me. I wanted to share his amazing natural body adaptations with others.Editing
I brought the exposure up a bit as he was photographed inside a bucket and then sharpened just a bit to clean up the clarity. In my camera bag
At that time, the Konica Minolta I was using (I was in the process of saving towards my current camera) was always with me. One never knows when that great shot opportunity will be available! Mind you, that little camera was only a 3mp but...I pushed that camera to its max and I learned so much from it because I had to work at all my pictures with it. I will say though that it was fantastic for macro shots.Feedback
Always be on the lookout for the strange and unique. Nature has so much variety to offer. Knowing that you are on a time limit with a wild animal can put a lot of pressure on you, so don't forget to breathe and relax! Put your brain in motion to figure out how to safely capture your shot(s) in a timely fashion-a bucket in this instance. Returning this animal safely and quickly back into its natural habitat was my utmost concern.
