This was the beginning of a full night of shooting and ended not long after the sun rose the next morning.

Location
This photo was taken at Karlu Karlu / Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve which is a protected area in the Northern Territory of Australia.Time
This was taken at the start of a long night of photography as the sun was about to disappear beneath the horizon. I spent the night taking photos of the magnificent night sky in this remote part of outback Australia and continued until the sun rose the next morning once more bathing these wonderful rocks in a golden glow.Lighting
My aim for this photo was to capture the golden light of sunset and the way the light brings the grasses and rocks to lifeEquipment
I mounted my Canon EOS 6D on a tripod for this shot and shot at 1/500 sec, F/9. focal length 18mm, ISO 640, Lens EF16-35mm 2.8L 11USM, no flash. I always shoot Raw.Inspiration
I wanted to show a connection between the sun and the landscape and this is why I chose to capture the sun's rays reaching out towards earth.Editing
Very little post processing was needed other than a little clarity, bringing out some detail from shadows and bring up the vibrance a tiny bit.In my camera bag
Tripod, a couple of Canon Powershots as backups, but my workhorse is my 6D with a range of lenses depending on what I am shooting.Feedback
Although a tripod isn't essential, it is a good idea if you are doing a lot of shots. For me the most important thing in photography is lighting and I really enjoy using natural light where possible and tend towards using the hour or so around sunset or sunrise. The position of the sun made this photo what it is, the golden glow and the rays of light.
