The Australian Xmas Beetle scientific name Anoplognathus. The species is in rapid decline. There are 35 species and the total number of Christmas beetles reported in the Sydney area has declined over the last 30 years as the grassy woodland areas get used up for housing. This specimen was found in the urban area of Canberra. Shot on Olympus 60mm macro lense using focus stacking and bracketing. Photographed live and released.

Nicely done..I too tried my hand at focus stacking on a cicada shell skeleton. For some reason I can't get this level of sharpness - used tripod, mirror lockup, 2 sec delay, IS off...but still not as sharp.
