One definition of 'opposites' is 'facing each other'. I was privileged to be given time with this talented young ballet dancer who often faces herself in the mirror as she undertakes the vigorous training required to strive achieve perfection in her art.

Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at a Ballet School in Canberra Australia.

Time

Early afternoon.

Lighting

I used the lighting in the studio.

Equipment

Olympus OMD-EM1 with 75mm prime handheld

Inspiration

I love reflections and deliberately set this shot up as I had visualised it.

Editing

Yes but minimal. In PScc set blacks and whites, slight sharpen, touch of clarity and vibrance.

In my camera bag

Olympus OMD-EM1 Mk2 with a range of lenses. Mostly Olympus 12-100mm pro for all round travel and landscapes, Olympus 300mm for wildlife, Olympus 45mm for portraits, Olympus 75mm for longer fashion shots. I have others but these are the ones I use most often. Manfrotto tripod and a light travel tripod.

Feedback

First dress talent and brief them on mood/emotion of shot and explain what you are trying to achieve. Then set up the shot checking the angle until it is exactly right. With reflection shots you must keep checking what is in the mirror as well as what is in the camera. Take many versions to give yourself lots of choices in post.
