Location
This was taken i the main conservatory at Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, PA. The property was once a DuPont estate, but is now open to the public. The displays change seasonally, but the Christmas display has always been one of my favorites. The outdoor gardens are festooned with lighs, so staying until dark is a must.Time
This photo was taken about 4 pm, but time of day is not critical here. The ceiling is glass and artificial lighting is extensive. The hardest thing is to get a shot without people. Patience is necessary, and a quick shutter finger.Lighting
Lighting was covered above.Equipment
I used a Canon t3i with a 55-250 lens, handheld.Inspiration
The 50+ foot tree makes the baby grand look like a toy.Editing
Only post-processing was to straighten the shot slightly. In my camera bag
I carry the t31, a Canon EOS, a Canon SX 50, a 60mm macro lens, 1.4 teleconverter, polarizing filter, batteries and granola bars and a water bottle.Feedback
Patience, and try to be at the venue when crowds are down. This was taken on a Thursday, and we got there at 1 pm, well before sundown. The crowds stated to build about 4:30, just before the outside lights came on. Take many frames; one will be outstanding. That is the beauty of digital.
