Location
This was taken in the Tongass National Forest near Hoonah, Alaska. There is a paved trail through the forest adjacent to the old cannery in Icy Straight Point. This little one was more interested in eating than in us.Time
Late morning or early afternoon, I really don't remember.Lighting
Natural lighting. The day was a bit overcast.Equipment
Canon T3i, 250mm lens. Handheld.Inspiration
When I taught Biology and environmental science, I would always mention the Tongass temperate rainforest. This was our first visit there (2013). The forest was as majestic as I had read. We have been back twice, with another trip planned for 2022. The area now has a fitness course that detracts from the former pristine condition. This is designed to bring income to the Tlingit tribe who own the area. I am happy we saw it in the more pristine condition.Editing
Minor cropping and light adjustment. In my camera bag
Two Canon T3i bodies, 300mm, 250mm zoom, 60mm macro, 28mm wide angle, 50mm prime (1.8). Various filters, extra batteries, rain cover, extra SD cards, lens paper and snacks. I also use a Canon SX50 on occasion. The strap of the bag is covered with pins from our travels.Feedback
Keep your eyes open; you never know what will appear. Take as many shots as possible; one will be good. Wildlife require patience and slow movements. Take your time and enjoy the encounter.
