Behind The Lens
Location
This photo featuring model Kristie Taylor, was taken during an event at the camera retailer I work for in Toronto. The event was sponsored by Canon and featured a commercial photographer using (at the time) their newest camera the 5D Mark IV. My task at the event was to take behind the scenes shots of the crowd and equipment set-up, photographer and of course the scene. This is one of my behind the scenes shots from the day.Time
Late afternoon/early eveningLighting
While there were various lights set-up (mainly Elinchrom, including a gigantic Litemotiv 190 cm softbox on a crane) for the event, this was shot using nothing but the available natural lighting at the time.Equipment
Shot handheld on a Canon 5D Mark III with an EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II USM lens mounted.Inspiration
As mentioned, it's part of my job to take behind the scenes shots of our events, but that doesn't mean that I try to capture my own vision as the same time.Editing
Post processing included tweaking the RAW image in Capture One Pro, followed by minor edits using Photoshop and NIK Silver EFX software plugin. In my camera bag
It really depends on the situation. Working for a camera retailer means I can usually have my pick of gear to use for any given situation. However, in my own personal gear bag, I carry my Canon 5D Mark II with either a 40mm "pancake" lens, my 24-105mm or my 85mm f/1.8.Feedback
My advice is this. Take the opportunity to attend photography events if your local camera store, or camera club hosts them. This type of situation doesn't just happen so unless you are a professional photographer with a big budget, access to loads of gear, props and of course models, you need to actively seek them out and take advantage of them when you can.
