Little hoops of color

This picture was taken during a bangle wearing ceremony that is celebrated a month before the birth of any first child. This practice is followed mostly in the southern part of India. The pregnant mother is decorated with jewelry and the other elder women in the family help the mother wear bangles to a specific number. These are usually glass bangles that brings about some nice sounds on movement. It is believed to be soothing for the baby in the womb. Usually the mother does not remove these bangles until it is time for the delivery of the baby!
