Curiosity is key to the success of crows. They leave no stone unturned in their constant quest for sustenance, and virtually anything with food value that they discover they may eat. On an ecological spectrum from specialist to generalist crows are as far on the generalist side as an animal can be. As fledglings they learn an array of foods and how to get them from their parents. But they also learn, and are innately inclined towards, investigation of novel items, which allows them to expand their menus as independent adults. And because they are social birds their lifelong learning benefits from the exploits of others as well as their own. Crows always keep an eye on each other. And as soon as one finds something to eat every other crows in sight range swoops in on it.
