Thank you so much for choosing my photo. This is one of my most favorite and is very special to me. These kids are helping and working their families to make some money. It's very unfortunate but these kids are cheerful and happy despite that.

Location
I took this photo in Manila, Philippines. It was a photo walk with other photographers. We went to a slum area in the city of Paranaque.Time
We were there in the early afternoon photographing the way the people live in the slum. They live by selling fish and shellfish that have been caught in the Bay of Manila.Lighting
I took this photo in early afternoon over cast daylight. It was all natural lighting.Equipment
I used the first camera that I bought; a second hand Nikon D80 and 70-300mm lens.Inspiration
I was sitting in a small "sari-sari" or convenience store having a drink and rest. It was a very warm day in summer. While there, I saw these kids together sitting on the edge of the bay watching my fellow photographers. One photographer approached the children and asked them to pose for him. They were very shy but one boy in the middle start posing and making funny faces while the others watched him and began laughing and teasing him. When I saw that, I grabbed my camera and took some shots of them laughing. I saw my childhood days in these kids. This is one of my most favorite photos. The natural expressions of the children and their contagious laughter despite experiencing poverty reminded me that I don't need expensive things or new clothes or big house to be happy. To have real friends is more special and valuable in the end plus it's free!Editing
The only post processing I did was cropping the photo a small amount and changing it to black and white to make viewers focus on the real emotions in this photo. In my camera bag
I always have my Nikon D7100 and D750 with lenses, 11-16 mm, 70-200 mm and tripod. I also carry a remote for my long exposure shots, ND filters and cleaning kit.Feedback
For this particular photo, I didn't expect or know what was going to happen. It was very a very spontaneous moment. That's why you need to have your camera and always be ready to capture something. Always have your camera settings where you usually set them to take a photo in the situation and environment you are in. For example, the day I photographed this, It was cloudy and bright and there was a lot of movement going on. I therefore already had my settings correct for this perfect environment. Sometimes, luck plays a large role and I was fortunate to be there at the right place and the right time.
