Location
This was taken at Sunset Bay State Park, near Charleston, OregonTime
I took this in the late afternoon, just before sunset. My favorite kind of lighting for photography is this time of day!Lighting
Sunrise and Sunset are the best times of day for the kind of photographs I take, mainly landscape and oceanscape.Equipment
I used a Canon Powershot SX50 as I do for most of my landscape photos.Inspiration
I'm always looking for a new and unique perspective for a scene that has been photographed a million times - Sunset Bay - so when I saw the shape and texture of the root ball on this piece of driftwood, I was all over it!Editing
I added a lens flare to the sun glint and amped up the contrast. Everything else it straight from the memory card.In my camera bag
Besides my Canon, I'm learning to use my Sony A57 and its various lenses for many types of photos from macro to landscape. Always have a tripod, and now monopod, and camera bag filled with lenses, filters, extra batteries and memory card, and several microfiber cloths. Just bought a 'raincoat' for my camera too and just in time for the rainy Winter months on the Oregon coast.Feedback
Keep you eyes peeled for any advantages for angles and perspective shots. Practice with your settings to get the correct depth of field for what you envision for your photo - I wanted both the wood grain and the beach scene to be at least semi-focused. It turned out better than I expected.
