Behind The Lens

Location

On a porch, over a family member's house.

Time

Can't pinpoint a time but I shot this in the afternoon.

Lighting

Since I took this photograph outside, I used the natural light. The sun was just behind trees and house. The light had a nice orangey effect.

Equipment

I used my trusted Sony camera and kit lens. Also, I balanced on the railing of the porch.

Inspiration

I was to do a photo shoot with my cousin that day. We had been planning it for weeks, however she forgot she was getting her wisdom teeth pulled. I still wanted to use her as my model so I came up with a few different poses that would not expose her bruised and puffy face from the surgery.

Editing

I did some post edits by brightening up the shot and adding a pink/fuchsia filter. She had such a fun colored shirt on I wanted to bring more of that pink out.

In my camera bag

I always have my Sony A58 with the kit lens 32-70mm and 50-200mm lens. I just got my prime 50mm so now that's stuck in the bag.

Feedback

Don't let a situation discourage you from your session. Even if people do not want their face used for photography, you can still have them as your model in different ways. Experiment with alternative angles and point of view, you'll come up with some interesting stuff.
