The ruins of this 10th Century castle lie in Dorset, England. For the whole of the Medieval Period, Corfe was a Royal Castle. King John kept the Crown Jewels there. In 1643 Oliver Cromwell and his Roundheads laid seige to the castle. The soldiers of Lady Bankes, whose residence it then was, defended it vigorously. In the end it was blown up by the Roundheads engineers.
