Behind The Lens

Location

Well, believe it or not, this photo was taken in my hallway against a back drop of a wall that had been painted a lovely gray-blue. The Calla Lily was a Mothers' Day gift from my husband and one of my sons. I placed the plant on the floor, then sat on the basement stairs so I could get a straight on image. I played with available lighting until I achieved the effect that I wanted.

Time

This is definitely one of my favourite images. I find everything about it beautifully romantic. I often get creative in the evening, once most of the family has retired for the night. This photo was taken during one of these late night creative endeavours.

Lighting

There is nothing especially interesting about the lighting. I simply played with what was readily available until I achieved the desired affect.

Equipment

This image was the product of a Sony Cybershot and a little post-processing using an available program, the name of which I do not recall and, sadly, which I no longer have... Other than that, no other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I am always inspired to shoot when there are flowers, plants, trees, or any kind of nature around. I love to garden, then as my various flowers bloom, I have my camera at the ready. I have a good sized property, virtually in the forest, so during the spring, summer and autumn I have a wealth of subjects to capture right in my yard. Raccoons, various birds, chipmunks, Callie my cat, moss, mushrooms, trilliums, tiny violets, etc, etc...

Editing

As I mentioned above, I did do some post-processing in order to create the look of a painting, but I do not recall specifically what. Now that I am fully retired and my children are grown, I plan the acquire a DSLR and relearn the mechanics of depth of field, lighting, F-stop, etc. I also have been gifted with Adobe Photoshop Elements 2020 & Premiere Elements 2020, so I plan to implement it as well.

In my camera bag

For now, all I have are my Sony Cybershot cameras, one of which I prefer over the other. A DSLR is very high on my wish list.

Feedback

My advice is simply to take advantage of every opportunity. This plant if long gone, but I will forever have this image and the warm memory of it.
