The Miccosukee Tribe of Indians in Florida conduct a thorough study of the Everglades every year. I was part of a convoy of 12 airboats carrying scientists, government officials, teachers, lots of middle school students from the tribe, and the tribal leadership.
The Everglades is the only subtropical rain forest in the world, it is our source of water, food, beauty. It is also being desecrated at an alarming rate. The Miccosukees have taken a serious leadership role in protecting this place, which is more than a nice place to visit. This is their home.
