That's just how it felt. One of the cleanest overall moments of my life.
The absence of noise, the solitude, the cold weather, the possible wildlife encounters, all helped amplify the experience.
First time hanging with the Aspens. Beautiful trees!

I spent the whole night up looking at the stars and taking a few shots. I had to wait for all the people in my group to finally go to bed so I could have a most coveted and necessary moment of stillness, silence, and solitude. This is one of about 15 pictures I took this night. I took it at about 1am. It is a 44 minute exposure.Lighting
It was a very clear, dry, and cool night. No light pollution except for a few low-wattage incandescent light bulbs. I set up the tripod next to the cabin, protected from unwanted glare. I am please at how the incandescent light helped to illuminate the aspens, which were beginning to turn yellow. I love how it helped out bring out their color.Equipment
I used my Nikon D810, paired with a 20mm prime lens set at f/2.8. This is my very first star trail attempt. I made sure to set it up firmly on my tripod as close to the ground. I used MUP setting and a remote control to minimize/eliminate any vibration. I set the ISO at 400, which I wish I hadn't. I could have easily set it at 200 or less and achieve a better result. I don't regret it, though. That is photography, it is a challenging, ever flowing form of art. I'm just grateful I had the opportunity to try something new and difficult and achieve a positive result.Inspiration
I crave the night sky, it is humanity's #1 source of wonder, what has unleashed our intelligence in every way. Mathematics, navigation, mythology, philosophy, etc. I crave it, I wanted my own little piece of eternity.Editing
I use DXO Pro Lab and PS6 to process my RAW images. I particularly like how DXO helps to correct the lens distortions, and help me show off what I saw and what I felt. Essential tool for my art.In my camera bag
Nikon D810, my beloved 200mm prime, my beloved 150-600mm Tamron, mono pod, big flash, heavy duty harness for the camera, lots of lens cleaning equipment.Feedback
Silence, stillness, solitude. Great art requires great attention, one must ferociously look for and seize the very few moments when all three align. Patience, knowledge, skill. More of it every day. I study the medium daily, I practice editing constantly, even if it's just on my cell phone, I make sure to make the process part of my artistic DNA. It is imperative to be in a place free of light pollution. There are VERY few left, so one must be ready to seize the moment whenever the opportunity becomes available.
