Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in the basement of the local theatre, the machines operate the curtains

Time

Actually it was the middle of the day, but the total absence of natural light makes that it could have been any time.

Lighting

The picture was taken using the existing (fluorescent) light

Equipment

Camera: Nikon D90, 18-105mm. No flash, no tripod. I did support the camera to the wall though, I boosted the ISO to 1600 which gave me a shutter speed of 1/25s.

Inspiration

My eyes were drawn to this composition, I really like the way the machines are lined up even though the line-up is far from perfect, also like the way the light flows around them.

Editing

I prefer to keep post-processing to a minimum, even though I shoot in RAW. a little bit of sharpening was added, but that's all.

In my camera bag

The trusty D90 mentioned above, a 18-55mm or 18-105mm, a 50mm prime and a 70-300mm. small tripod and flash are mandatory and are in the bag too (Flipside 400AW, lots of room for all the gear I ever need)

Feedback

Always keep an open eye for repeating subjects, you never know when they turn up. Best keep your preferred camera ready at all times too
