Behind The Lens

Location

I captured this image in my home studio.

Time

I captured this image at 19:30 in the evening.

Lighting

The lighting set-up i used was basically one modelling lamp placed to the right hand side of the model and the intensity of the exposure controlled by the camera using manual settings.

Equipment

I used a Canon 7D Mk1 with a 28-105mm F4L lens.

Inspiration

For a while now i;ve been working a lot with moody directional lighting. I consider the lighting to be the most important aspect of the image you are trying to capture.

Editing

I use lightroom to edit my images, a tonal preset with a touch of matte look applied using the tone cure module.

In my camera bag

In my bag i now have two 50D's one 7D Mk1, One Fuji X10 50mm, 28-105mm and 70-200 mm Lenses. Studio lights, off camera flash and continuous lighting.

Feedback

Experiment with lighting to get the desired effect you are after. Study light and how it falls on the subject. Control the exposure with manual settings on the camera so after each shot you can see the lighting adjustments on each image. You'll learn how to control the sene better.
