Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the beautiful Cable Beach, Broome, Western Australia.

Time

Prior to sunset locals and visitors flock to Broome's Cable Beach - it's the perfect way to salute the end of any day and watch the huge golden sun sink into the vast azure Indian Ocean for the night. Locals drive on to the beach and sit beside in fold-out chairs with a wine of beer in hand, while tourist experience a camel ride up and back from Cable Beach Resort.

Lighting

This was just another perfect natural end to a brilliant day of life on our blessed earth.

Equipment

Nikon 16-300mm Tamron lens - handheld - daylight filter - nothing special - I don't even adjust or use Lightroom to clean up photos like others - this is life as it is - its own natural beauty unadjusted.

Inspiration

Broome's Cable Beach sunset camel rides are infamous and a must in any story of this region.

Editing

No - as above - as a travel writer I don't believe in it. I see too many photos of regions and beaches in particular that have been over-processed and look nothing like that in real life.

In my camera bag

My MacBook Pro laptop and Nikon 16-300mm Tamron lens. They go everywhere with me - even when my apartment building had a fire I through both in my oversized airline carry-on handbag!!

Feedback

Practice and adjust settings to see what works best (especially for sunsets) - the best then becomes second nature to you.
