Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at Penny's Bend Nature Preserve in Durham, North Carolina.

Time

Early morning sunrise. It was hot and sticky and mist was in the air earlier that morning.

Lighting

I carefully set up my camera as low as I could with it still being secured then just waited for that golden light to peak through the trees to give it this beautiful glow!

Equipment

I used a Canon 5DSR with a Zeiss Distagon 15mm lens and Formatt Hitech 1.8 ND on top of RRS tripod.

Inspiration

I love this spot since its hidden away and not photographed too often. You have to bushwhack your to find it and I had photographed it a year before during sunset and I had been wanting to give it another go.

Editing

I had opened up the shadows and highlights before bringing into photoshop where I did selective contrast adjustments with levels and curves using Lumenzia.

In my camera bag

Canon 5DSR and 5D Mark IV, Zeiss Distagon 15mm 2.8, Canon 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8 with Formatt Hitech 165mm ND(.9,1.8,3,4.8) GND(.9,1.8) and Singh-Ray polarizers all in f-stop bag.

Feedback

Just be careful one bad slip and you or your equipment will be toast so make sure you have a great tripod and make sure the footings (and your own) are secured then just sit back and be prepared for when that beautiful golden light appears.
